ABOUT COLONY CARPETS
Colony Carpets was founded in 1975 by Mervin Johns. Mervin had recently relocated from Southern California to Atascadero. He had worked as a general contractor building new homes for many years, and used his contacts in the carpet manufacturing business to open a carpet store in Atascadero. Originally it was called Mervin Johns Carpets.
In 1984, Mervin’s son Jeff began working in the family business estimating and installing. When Mervin retired in 1994 Jeff took over ownership with a business partner, Bob Arnold, and they changed the name to Colony Carpets in honor of the historic Colony homes in the city of Atascadero. A second location on Riverside Avenue in Paso Robles was opened in 1996. In 2004 both stores were combined into the Riverside location.
Colony Carpets has kept pace with consumer trends and tastes over the decades and offers much more than carpet. Colony Carpets also sells and installs a wide range of floor coverings including hardwood, laminate, vinyl, and the newest addition to the floor covering lineup – luxury vinyl tile.
Luxury vinyl tile, or ‘LVT,’ is not the paper thin, plastic-looking sheet vinyl from the 70s and 80s. LVT comes in either tiles or planks and is much thicker and more durable than sheet vinyl. Additionally, the current photographic and print technologies used in the manufacture of LVT make for very realistic stone and wood looks as well as texture. This combination of extreme durability, ease of maintenance, great looks, and great value is rapidly increasing the popularity of VCT. Colony Carpets features Karndean, Metro Floor, Coretec, and Paradigm LVT.
Colony Carpets also features many of the leading brands in carpet such as: Shaw, Tuftex, Mohawk, and Royalty. Check us out for some of the leading sheet vinyl manufacturers as well. We have a great selection from both Armstrong and Mannington. Both of these companies are now industry leaders in the laminate flooring business as well, and we feature some of their best laminate products as well.
